While playing blackjack, players come across a situation wherein they have a pair, two cards of the same value like two kings or two eights per the rules of the game you are allowed of such a strategy as to split pairs and play as two separate hands. This could be advantageous to the player at the blackjack table.
In case the player decides to split the pair then he/she will be doubling the bet, which necessarily does not mean that they are doubling the chances to defeat the dealer and win the hand. It is better to think carefully before making a choice of splitting.

Splitting the pairs
Take an example where are holding a total of 20 in case you have two tens or two picture cards. If the dealer wants to beat you than he has to pull 21 or a blackjack, you are in a solid position so it is better to stick with the total of 20. If you have a pair of aces then it is better to split the pairs. On the next card if you get a picture card or a ten, there are better odds to take the hand down since the dealer would then have to pull a blackjack in order to win the hand.
If the value of the pair you have is lower then in general its better not to split the pair, for instance if you have two nines you have total of eighteen. If you do split and they if you are dealt with a ten then you would have improved one hand by one. However, if on the other hand if you are dealt with a six it would be a tough hand. If the dealer shows a ten or any picture card it is better to stick to 18 and take the chances rather than splitting the pair.
In case you have two nines with you and the dealer has low or mid value card, you may want to consider splitting since the dealer will show a seven and will draw another mid value card, he will have to pull once more and the chances are that he may bust out.
For instance you have a lower value pairs that its suggestive to think about the total of those cards before you split them, a pair of fives means you have a total of ten. Without splitting and drawing a nine or a card wit a face value of ten will put you on 20 which is indeed a stronger position.
On the other side, if you would have split those fives and then got eight and one and a seven you will be back at square one. Any low total which the dealer can easily beat would also force you to hit it again. If that hit is a high value card you would loose the hand and the money with it.
